Dodgers reliever Brusdar Graterol is expected to miss the first half of next season after undergoing surgery Thursday on the labrum in his right shoulder, the team announced.

Graterol’s surgery comes after a season plagued by shoulder troubles, in which he made just seven regular-season outings and missed the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The 26-year-old right-hander was effective in his brief stints, posting a 2.45 earned-run average in the regular season and giving up just one run in three World Series appearances.

His anticipated absence to start next season highlights the Dodgers’ need to bolster their bullpen this offseason. Another right-hander, Daniel Hudson, announced his retirement after the World Series.

A fan favorite when he played with the Dodgers in 2012-13, Luis Cruz returns to the team by stepping into the broadcast booth in the wake of Fernando Valenzuela’s death.
