Photos: After a season of adversity, the Culver City Centaurs are Bay League champions
Running back/wide receiver Jasani Pitts listens intently to coach Jahmal Wright’s instructions between drills during the second week of practice on March 11. Pitts and his teammates only had two weeks to prepare for their first game of a five-game abbreviated schedule.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought many changes to sports throughout the last year — one of them being the shortened season. Times photographer Jason Armond followed the Culver City Centaurs through their football season — which consisted of only five games — capturing key moments, including quarterback Zevi Eckhaus becoming Culver City’s all-time passing leader and the Los Angeles Times’ all-star quarterback of the year.
He finished his five-game season passing for 1,893 yards and 24 touchdowns with just one interception. He completed 78% of his passes as Culver City went 4-1 and walked away as Bay League champions.
