Baseball: JSerra sweeps Huntington Beach in doubleheader
Top-ranked JSerra has come out on fire. The Lions (4-0) swept a doubleheader from Huntington Beach on Tuesday, winning 8-3 and 5-2.
In the first game, Royce Lewis and Christian Molfetta each had two hits and two RBI. Collin Quinn threw five innings of relief, striking out four and walking none. In the second game, Chase Strumpf had a double and triple.
L.A. Marshall 3, Birmingham 0: The Barristers stunned the defending City champions to improve to 9-1-1. Johnny Vergara threw the shutout, striking out 10. Freshman Joseph Padilla and Joey Ramirez each had an RBI.
Harvard-Westlake 7, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: Cameron Deere threw a five-hitter for the Wolverines (7-0, 1-0) in a Mission League opener. Leo Kaplan had a two-run double, Deere had a two-run double and Chase Aldridge had an RBI double.
Alemany 15, Crespi 2: An eight-run sixth inning powered the Warriors (7-2, 1-0) to a win in their Mission League opener. Adam Bedrossian had a two-run double and a three-run double. Ruben Cardenas added two hits and three RBI.
El Toro 3-2, Mater Dei 2-5: Tyler Lasch’s RBI double in the eighth gave El Toro the win in game one.
Royal 6, Northview 5: Kurt Johnson got the save for the Highlanders, getting out of a seventh-inning jam. Cory Baxter hit a three-run home run.
Murrieta Mesa 2, Carlsbad 1: Murrieta Mesa improved to 7-0.
Ayala 11, Apple Valley 1: Matt Acosta threw four shutout innings and Josh Bozoian had a home run and three RBI.
Norco 7, Summit 3: The Cougars (6-1) won the championship game of the Chino tournament.
Fallbrook 5, Great Oak 0: Andrew White threw a no-hitter for Fallbrook, striking out eight.
Village Christian 3, St. Francis 2: The Crusaders picked up the win in the Babe Herman tournament. Tyler Leon hit a home run.
El Camino Real 4, Crescenta Valley 1: The Conquistadores won the Babe Herman tournament game.
Venice 6, Palisades 4: Diego Rodriguez had two RBI for Venice in a Western League game.
Hamilton 7, University 0: Benji Kaiserman and Max Johnson combined for the shutout. Kaiserman had a double and triple.
Dos Pueblos 2, Santa Barbara 1: The Chargers got a walk-off victory on an error. Kevin Gowdy struck out eight in six innings for Santa Barbara. Darby Naughten held Santa Barbara to six hits and stranded nine baserunners.
Narbonne 2, Palos Verdes 1: Daniel Roch struck out seven and allowed four hits in a complete game.
Santa Fe 3, La Salle 1: Santa Fe got the victory.
Edison 10-2, Servite 7-2: A seven-run fifth inning helped the Chargers wipe out a 5-1 deficit in the first game of a doubleheader sweep. Wyatt Adams threw a complete game in the second game to improve to 3-0.
Buena 5, San Marcos 1: Austin Rubick struck out 10 for Buena in the Channel League game.
Murrieta Valley 12, Vista 3: Dominic Morace had a home run and single to lead the Nighthawks (5-0).
