Baseball: West Ranch wins 14 of its final 15 games to gain share of Foothill League title

West Ranch had little room for error after starting the Foothill League losing two of its first three games, but the Wildcats ended the regular season by winning 14 of their last 15 games and earned a share of the league title on Thursday by knocking off Valencia, 4-3.

West Ranch and Valencia each finished 11-4 in league, but West Ranch will enter the Division 1 playoffs as the league’s No. 1 team after winning two of the three games from the Vikings. Tim Josten threw a complete game and Cade Spurlin, Doug Gragg and Nico Valdez each had two hits.

Hart 13, Canyon 4: The Indians finished in third place in the Foothill League. Cole Roederer had three hits.

Saugus 13, Golden Valley 2: Jacob Lopez threw six shutout innings, striking out eight.

Chaminade 8, Crespi 6: Blake Mann hit a three-run home run to help the Eagles win the Mission League championship by one game over Loyola.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 2, Loyola 1: A Colin Brophy sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth broke the 1-1 tie and lifted the Knights to victory. Brennan Hart threw five innings of stellar relief for Notre Dame. Loyola’s Derek Marshall had tied the game in the eighth with a home run. Notre Dame finished fourth in the Mission League and earned the league’s final playoff spot.

Harvard-Westlake 2, Alemany 1: Down, 1-0, in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, two outs and a 2-2 count, Paul Giacomazzi delivered a booming two-run double to right field to give the Wolverines the victory. Harvard-Westlake finished in third place in the Mission League. Blaine Traxel was the tough-luck loser, shutting out the Wolverines for 6 2/3 innings.

Orange Lutheran 5, Santa Margarita 1: The Lancers claimed second place in the Trinity League. Brendan Avventino had two hits and three RBIs. Zach Busalacchi threw two shutout innings of relief.

Santa Ana Mater Dei 1, St. John Bosco 0: The Monarchs earned a Division 1 playoff spot behind Jonathan Schiffer, who threw a complete-game shutout.

JSerra 4, Servite 0: Four pitchers combined for the shutout for the Trinity League champion Lions. Brady Shockey and Chase Strumpf each had two hits.

Vista Murrieta 6, Temecula Valley 0: Chance Hroch set a school record with his seventh shutout and won his 10th victory, striking out seven and walking none.

Murrieta Valley 11, Great Oak 2: Ben Moralez hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and finished with seven RBIs for Murrieta Valley.

Palisades 1, Marshall 0: Andy Mendez had a no-hitter for 7 2/3 innings for Marshall in the City Section Division I play-in game. Then Harrison Hart got a two-out double and Henry Conquilard drove him in for the winning run. Justin Hirschberg threw six shutout innings for Palisades, which will play at No. 1 Chatsworth on Tuesday.

San Pedro 6, Sylmar 4: The Pirates won their play-in game and will play at No. 2 El Camino Real.

Taft 16, North Hollywood 5: Josh Thomas and Lee Brandzel each had three hits and Shai Fioulous hit a three-run home run. Taft will play at No. 3 Birmingham on Tuesday.

Carson 10, Dorsey 0: The Colts advance to play No. 4 Cleveland on Tuesday.

POLA 2, Northridge Academy 0: Fernando Rivas threw the shutout in a Division III City Section game.

Santa Barbara 4, San Marcos 0: Alex Chicote threw the shutout to help the Dons claim second place in the Channel League.

Moorpark 4, Camarillo 2: Kenny Brawner allowed four hits in six innings. Greg Dominguez had two hits.

Glendora 21, Diamond Bar 2: Glendora collected 22 hits, led by Kyle Reinhardt, who hit two home runs, a triple and finished with six RBIs.

Bishop Amat 16, Gardena Serra 1: Clarence Carter went four for five with three RBIs. Jayson Gonzalez had a home run.

Esperanza 2, Canyon 1: Blake Schriever scattered 10 hits and struck out seven for the Aztecs.

Mission Viejo 6, Laguna Hills 1: The Diablos finally gave up a run in league play but still prevailed. Jake Spillane improved to 7-0.

Culver City 3, Beverly Hills 0: Culver City won its 13th consecutive game. Nolan Martinez struck out 11 in five innings. Jake Weiner had a double and triple. It was the fifth consecutive start in which Martinez hasn’t allowed a run.

Beckman 5, Northwood 3: Will Cohen allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Woodbridge 8, University 1: Woodbridge won the Pacific Coast League championship. It’s the school’s first league title since 1993.

Los Osos 11, Damien 9: Harrison Spohn had four RBIs in defeat.

Etiwanda 5, Chino Hills 4: The Eagles rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brad Massaro delivered the game-winning two-run single, securing third place in the Baseline League. Rancho Cucamonga finished second and Damien first.

Los Alamitos 4, Marina 0: Scott Andersen threw a one-hitter, striking out six.

Huntington Beach 7, Fountain Valley 2: The Oilers gained second place in the Sunset League. Hagen Danner had three hits and two RBIs. Cory Moore added three hits and three RBIs.

Newport Harbor 17, Edison 8: The Chargers finished in third place in the Sunset League.

Mira Costa 2, Redondo 1: Trevor Franklin struck out 10 and threw a three-hitter to hand Redondo only its second loss of the season. Zack Chan drove in the winning run in the top of the seventh.

Sierra Canyon 19, McAuliffe 0: The Trailblazers (20-7) received three hits from Michael Croft, including two triples.

El Toro 2, Dana Hills 1: The Chargers locked up the No. 2 seed in Division 1 with the eight-inning win. Noah Fluman struck out five in four innings of relief. Hans Crouse struck out 10 in six innings for Dana Hills.

Foothill 5, Yorba Linda 1: Dillon Brown (10-1) threw a two-hitter and also hit a home run. Josh Manzur had a two-run home run. Foothill won the North Hills League championship.

North 12, Riverside Poly 0: Tony Bullard threw five shutout innings and contributed two hits and three RBIs. North won the Inland Valley League championship.

Aliso Niguel 11, Capistrano Valley 1: Blake Sabol finished with four hits. Sabol, Hunter Jump and William Nguyen all hit home runs.

Cypress 12, La Palma Kennedy 0: James Acuna struck out six in 4 2/3 innings.

La Mirada 9, Bellflower 1: The Matadores won the Suburban League championship. Jakob Gonzalez threw a complete game.
