Basketball: Open Division is a go in the City Section

City Section Commissioner John Aguirre said Wednesday that there will be an Open Division in boys’ and girls’ basketball this season in the City Section after meeting on Tuesday with members of the basketball advisory committee.
The Board of Managers approved the Open Division last month, but there had been concerns whether enough ballots from coaches had been received.
The next step will be the section’s coaches voting on two proposals still to be written on how the divisional brackets will be made up.
Should the focus be on creating divisions that leave a level playing field or should the focus be on creating divisions with the emphasis on the state tournament in mind?
A vote is expected before coaches have their annual meeting in October.
