Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills pulls out 71-67 win over Bishop Montgomery

The battle featuring two 21-0 teams and No. 1 vs. No. 2 on Saturday night at a sold-out Cerritos College lived up to the hype.

No. 1 Chino Hills pulled out a 71-67 win over No. 2 Bishop Montgomery.

The Huskies (22-0) broke a 64-64 deadlock with a basket by Elizjah Scott with 1:55 left, followed by a basket from freshman Onyeka Okongwu with 1:03 left.

Chino Hills had struggled all night trying to execute on offense. Bishop Montgomery (21-1) had outplayed the Huskies behind sophomore David Singleton, who scored 22 points, and junior Jordan Schakel, who had 19 points, and junior Ethan Thompson, who scored 17 points.

But with the game on the line, Chino Hills was able to execute its pick and rolls. Lonzo Ball was two of 21 shooting but had 14 assists. LiAngelo Ball finished with 22 points, LaMelo Ball had 18, Scott 16 and Okongwu 10.
