Football: Dorsey pulls out 21-20 victory over Los Angeles

Dorsey has put itself in position to make a three-game run that could deliver a Coliseum League title after pulling out a 21-20 victory over Los Angeles on Friday afternoon at Los Angeles.

The Dons’ defense, behind 6-foot-4, 240-pound sophomore defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux and senior defensive back Marquett Jackson, made the big plays.

Thibodeaux was a one-man wrecking crew. At one point in the first half, he personally helped produce four consecutive plays for losses. He also came on in the second half after the Dons trailed at halftime, 14-8. He recorded two sacks when Los Angeles was fighting back.

“They couldn’t block him,” first-year Dorsey Coach Charles Mincy said

Jackson came up with an interception return for a touchdown that gave Dorsey a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter and contributed the decisive tackle to stop a Los Angeles two-point conversion attempt with just under five minutes left.

“It was a big game,” Mincy said. “We felt we hadn’t played to our potential. We’ve been doing well in the second half.”

Gregory Jordan also played well on the defensive line for Dorsey.

Quarterback Jerman Gotoy had a touchdown pass to Elijah Boykins for Dorsey.

Solomon Hassen scored two touchdowns in the first half for Los Angeles.

Dorsey plays Hawkins next week, then Crenshaw at the Coliseum. Two more wins and a Coliseum League title will go to the Dons.
