Football: Lifting weights is important at Mater Dei

At 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning, Santa Ana Mater Dei players were yawning, one was taking a nap and others were still trying to wake up.
But as soon as they entered the weight room, it was all business. Lifting weights for football players is an important component of the program put together by Coach Bruce Rollinson.
“You got to work hard in the weight room,” Rollinson said. “We lift hard all season. We don’t believe in maintenance lifting. Our whole spin on this thing, agree or disagree, is that in November and December, we’re still getting stronger.”
Mater Dei’s offensive and defensive lines figure to be the strength of the team, and there were lots of powerful teenagers working hard.
