Football: QBs start well in the year of the quarterbacks
It’s the year of the quarterback, and the QBs considered among the best made favorable first impressions.
Alabama-bound Blake Barnett passed for 301 yards and ran for 83 yards in Corona Santiago’s 47-21 win over Redlands.
Junior KJ Costello of Santa Margarita attempted a school-record 43 passes, completing 27 for 308 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-21 win over Bishop Amat. Barnett and Costello meet on Friday at Trabuco Hills.
Junior Malik Henry of Westlake passed for 220 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-17 win over Canyon Country Canyon.
Oregon-bound Travis Waller of Servite passed for 282 yards and one touchdown and ran for 138 yards and one touchdown in a 48-27 loss to Bishop Gorman.
Arizona State-bound Brady White of Hart passed for a school-record 537 yards and six touchdowns in a 63-48 loss to Chino Hills.
USC-bound Sam Darnold of San Clemente passed for two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns in a 38-22 win over Garfield.
Washington State-bound Tyler Hilinski of Upland passed for 198 yards and five touchdowns in a 71-0 win over Knight.
Florida-bound Sheriron Jones of Rancho Verde passed for 246 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 142 yards in a 37-34 victory over Citrus Hill.
USC-bound Ricky Town of St. Bonaventure completed 23 of 29 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-20 loss to Helix.
