Football: Tony Henney is dismissed as Westlake coach
Tony Henney, who won two Southern Section titles at Nordhoff and one at Trabuco Hills, said Tuesday he has been dismissed as football coach at Westlake after two years.
“I wasn’t going to quit,” was all Henney was willing to say about the situation.
Henney was hired to replace longtime head coach Jim Benkert, who left for rival Oaks Christian.
Westlake finished 3-8 this season after going 7-4 last season.
Henney will continue to serve as athletic director. He could immediately become a top candidate for the Buena coaching position.
As for possible Westlake candidates, Thousand Oaks Coach Mike Leibin was a finalist the last time the job opened. He’s a Westlake grad and former Westlake assistant.
