Volleyball: El Camino Real wins City Section Division I title
There were lots of firsts for El Camino Real on Saturday at the City Section Division I boys’ volleyball championship.
The Conquistadores won their first volleyball championshp, winning in five sets over powerful Palisades. El Camino Real won the fifth set, 15-12. It was the first time the Conquistadores had beaten Palisades this season after losing twice in tournaments.
Leading the Conquistadores was 6-foot-6 Cole Chea and middle blocker James Wernik.
It was a triumph for second-year Coach Alyssa Lee, who might have become the first woman to coach a City Section Division I boys’ team to a championship.
In Division II, Chatsworth swept Eagle Rock to win the title behind Jayson Moore.
Jordan won its second consecutive Division III championship, defeating LACES in four sets.
It was quite a day for El Camino Real. The softball team defeated Banning, 2-1, in 10 innings to win the Division I championship.
