Rockies put pitcher Tyler Chatwood on 15-day DL

The Colorado Rockies have put right-hander Tyler Chatwood on the 15-day disabled list because of a right elbow strain and recalled righty Chad Bettis from triple-A Colorado Springs.

The 24-year-old Chatwood made four starts for the Rockies this season, going 1-0 with a 4.50 earned-run average. He opened the season on the DL because of a strained left hamstring.

Chatwood started 20 games last season, going 8-5 with a 3.15 ERA

The 24-year-old Bettis began the season on the Rockies’ opening-day roster for the first time in his career before being optioned to triple A on April 25, where he made one scoreless appearance. He was 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA in 11 appearances during his first stint with the Rockies.

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Ender Inciarte from triple-A Reno and optioned outfielder Roger Kieschnick to their top minor league club.

The 23-year-old hit .312 with two home runs and 12 runs batted in with seven stolen bases in 26 games with the Aces this season.

Inciarte made the Philadelphia Phillies’ opening-day roster after being a 2012 Rule 5 Draft selection but did not appear in a game and was returned to the Diamondbacks.

Kieschnick appeared in four games for the Diamondbacks after being recalled on April 24, going 0 for 7. He was claimed by Arizona off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on April 4.

Former pitcher Javier Vazquez has been hired as international special assistant to baseball players’ union head Tony Clark.

The 37-year-old Vazquez, who played from 1998-2011, is a former player representative and member of the union’s bargaining team, He lives in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he was born and raised. His hiring was announced Wednesday.
