Michael Phelps, fiancee Nicole Johnson have baby boy, Boomer Robert Phelps

Michael Phelps and fiancee Nicole Johnson had a baby boy Thursday, the Olympic swimmer announced this afternoon on Twitter:

“Welcome Boomer Robert Phelps into the world!!! Born 5-5-2016 at 7:21 pm !!! Healthy and happy!!!...

Phelps also posted a photo on Instagram of him holding the baby with Johnson in the background.

Scheduled to swim in a meet next weekend, Phelps pulled out earlier this week because of the impending birth. He is scheduled to swim in one more event before the Olympic trials begin at the end of June.

The owner of a record 18 gold medals and 22 overall medals, Phelps had originally said he was retiring after the 2012 London Olympics. But he has since re-teamed with coach Bob Bowman and moved his training to Arizona to prepare for the Rio Olympics in early August.
