Andy Roddick will try to stop Milos Raonic’s run in Memphis

Canadian Milos Raonic is on what he calls an amazing run, and he’s not ready to stop after using his powerful serve to beat Mardy Fish, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, Saturday in the RMK Championships semifinals at Memphis, Tenn.

The 20-year-old Raonic will play his second ATP final in as many weeks Sunday against top-seeded Andy Roddick, who defeated Juan Martin del Potro, 6-3, 6-4, in the other semifinal. Raonic won in San Jose last week.

“I’m playing amazing and getting amazing results,” Raonic said.

This is only Raonic’s ninth ATP World Tour event, and his hot start to this year already moved him from No. 156 at the end of 2010 to a career-high No. 59 coming into Memphis. His performance will move him into the top 50 to around 37, which would make him the highest-ranked Canadian ever.

Roddick reached his 50th final, and will be trying to win his 30th title.

Caroline Wozniacki, set to regain the No. 1 ranking, beat Jelena Jankovic, 7-5, 6-3, at the Dubai Championships in the United Arab Emirates to reach her first final of the year.

The top-seeded Dane downed Jankovic for the first time and will play for the title against Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova, who defeated Flavia Pennetta of Italy, 6-4, 6-4.

GOLF: Langer leads by four

Bernhard Langer shot a six-under-par 66 and leads the Champions Tour’s ACE Group Classic by four strokes heading into the final round at Naples, Fla.

Langer matched the tournament’s 36-hole record at 14-under 130. Mark O’Meara, Russ Cochran, Fred Funk and Mark Calcavecchia are tied for second.

Langer birdied his first three holes on his way to a 31 on the front nine.

Toru Taniguchi of Japan has withdrawn from the Match Play Championship this week because of a neck injury, putting Henrik Stenson in the 64-man field. Taniguchi was No. 64 in the world ranking, so the change will not affect the brackets.

Marlies Schild lived up to expectations and won the gold medal for a 1-2 Austrian finish in the women’s slalom at the world championships at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Kathrin Zettel was .34 of a second behind to take the silver and Maria Pietilae-Holmner of Sweden earned bronze.

Schild was distracted this week by the knee injury that ended the season of her boyfriend and Austrian teammate, Benjamin Raich. “I hope he’ll feel better now,” Schild said.

Cathleen Martini and Romy Logsch of Germany have won the women’s bobsled gold medal at the world championships at Konigssee, Germany, with the United States team of Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming in second place in their final world championships together before retirement. … Dutch speedskater Marrit Leenstra won the 1,500-meter race for her first World Cup gold medal at Kearns, Utah, edging teammate Ireen Wust by 0.37 of a second. … French speedskater Thibaut Fauconnet claimed gold in the men’s 500 meters at the short-track World Cup at Dresden, Germany, finishing .01 of a second ahead of Simon Cho to cut his gap in the standings behind the American.

Felix Sturm successfully defended his WBA middleweight title by knocking out American challenger Ronald Hearns in the seventh round at Stuttgart, Germany. Sturm improved to 35-2-1 with 15 KOs, while Hearns, the son of Thomas Hearns, drops to 26-2 with 20 KOs.

U.S. Speedskating officials denied claims they didn’t properly investigate allegations against a former Olympic speedskating gold medalist who has been accused of striking young skaters with hockey sticks and hammers. The Washington Post reported Saturday that coach Kim Dong-Sung of South Korea continued to teach and keep his accreditation after complaints were made to U.S. Speedskating.

The NFL and its players’ union spent about six hours at the office of a federal mediator in Washington for the second day in a row. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell declined to comment as he left the office. Union head DeMaurice Smith also did not stop to take questions when he left. The current collective bargaining agreement runs out at the end of the day March 3. The players believe that team owners are preparing to lock them out as soon as the following day, which could threaten the 2011 season.

The vice president of a last-place soccer team in Guatemala has been shot to death after receiving threats about the club’s poor play. A police spokesman said no suspects have been detained in the killing of Carlos Noe Gomez. Gonzalez said the club executive was killed late Friday as he left a team meeting in the northern province of Huehuetenango.

Chelsea’s hopes of a third straight FA Cup title were dashed after losing to Everton on penalties in a fourth-round replay at London. American goalkeeper Tim Howard saved a crucial penalty for Everton.

Racing officials say jockey Eibar Coa fell from his horse and suffered a serious neck injury Friday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla. Coa, a native of Venezuela, broke his C-4 vertebrae in the fall and underwent surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital.

Chicago Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville was released from the hospital after being treated for gastrointestinal bleeding brought on by a small ulcer. He is resting comfortably at home and a full recovery is expected. … Nashville Predators forward Jordin Tootoo has been cleared to play again while he continues treatment in a substance-abuse and behavioral-health program. … In a trade between struggling teams in the Western Conference, the Colorado Avalanche acquired former No. 1 pick Erik Johnson and Jay McClement from the St. Louis Blues for Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk.

Outfielder Hunter Pence has defeated the Houston Astros in the final salary arbitration case of the off-season, giving players victories in two of three hearings this year. Pence will make $6.9 million rather than the team’s offer of $5.15 million. The three cases matched the low since the process started in 1974. Pittsburgh pitcher Ross Ohlendorf won his case this year and Angels pitcher Jered Weaver lost.

American sprinter Michael Rodgers ran a personal best of 6.50 seconds to win the 60 meters and Britain’s Mo Farah broke the European 5,000-meter record at the Birmingham Indoors in England. Rodgers equaled the best time in the world this year. Farah used a powerful kick to finish the 5,000 in 13 minutes, 10.60 seconds, trimming 0.53 off the European record set by France’s Bouabdellah Tahri in 2010.

Competing in his first race since escaping a doping ban, Alberto Contador kept alive his chances for a third straight Tour of the Algarve title by remaining in second place overall after the race’s next-to-last stage in Tavira, Portugal.
