Update: This match, originally scheduled for Aug. 28, was postponed because of Hurricane Irene. And that isn’t going to help the Galaxy in Tuesday’s game because it will be without leading scorer Landon Donovan, who stayed home to have a mild quadriceps strain treated and examined. Also not in New York are Galaxy midfielder Chris Birchall and forward Mike Magee, who stayed back because of undisclosed injuries while forward Robbie Keane reported to the Irish national team ahead of its upcoming international game. Tuesday’s match will also be the ninth in 30 days for the Galaxy, which needs a win to wrap up the Supporters’ Shield and home-field advantage throughout the MLS playoffs. The Red Bulls, locked in a tight battle for the final postseason berth with three regular-season matches left, are led by Thierry Henry, the league’s second-leading scorer, with 13 goals. New York has lost just once in its last five matches. But the Galaxy is even hotter, having gone two months without an MLS loss. The Galaxy outlasted a stubborn Real Salt Lake team Saturday behind two goals set up by David Beckham, who leads the MLS in assists with 15.
