Angels place Wilson on seven-day DL, recall Conger from triple-A

The Angels placed catcher Bobby Wilson on the seven-day concussion disabled list Tuesday and recalled catcher Hank Conger from triple-A Salt Lake. Conger will catch and bat eighth against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night.

Wilson left Monday night’s game in the second inning after taking a hard foul tip in the face mask. Manager Mike Scioscia said Wilson, who suffered a concussion in a home-plate collision with New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira in his first big league start on April 23, 2010, was “a little woozy.”

Conger returned to action Thursday night after missing five weeks because of an elbow sprain. The former Huntington Beach High School standout hit .209 with six home runs and 19 runs batted in in 59 games for the Angels last season.

Major League baseball and the players’ union created the seven-day DL in 2011 in an effort to give team doctors and the injured players more flexibility to address head injuries.
