Oklahoma is embarrassing Texas in the Red River Rivalry (Rout)

They offer a lot of great things at the State Fair of Texas game at the Cotton Bowl, and I’ve eaten all of them.

My favorite is the giant turkey leg, followed by corny dogs, funnel cakes and whatever else they can throw in a deep fryer.

In one of the morning shockers, Oklahoma is taking Texas to the Dunk Tank. The score was 36-2 when the first half ended and it wasn’t that close. Oklahoma had 17 first downs to Texas’ four.

If you counted the score from the start of last year’s game, a 55-17 Oklahoma win, Texas had been outscored 91-19 in six quarters.

There have been bad stretches in this Red River Rivalry. Oklahoma won the 2003 game, 65-13. But this Texas defense, which was supposed to be the strength of the team, has been an embarrassment of late.

It’s hard to believe Texas shut out New Mexico, 45-0, earlier this year. The Longhorns appear incapable of tackling. Last week the defense was embarrassed by West Virginia in a 48-45 loss in Austin.

West Virginia finished with 460 total yards. Oklahoma had 407 yards against Texas in the first half of Saturday’s game.

A promising start has turned sour for Texas. Some people, including me, thought Texas might be a year away from contending for a national title.

That year looks like 2016.
