Raul Ibanez hit another game-tying home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Ibanez, 40, was the hero of Game 3 of the Yankees’ divisional series against the Baltimore Orioles when he hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth and a game-winning solo home run in the 12th.
He again sent the Yankees into extra innings in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday night, this time with a two-run blast off of Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde that landed a few rows up into the right-field bleachers.
Russell Martin got the bottom of the ninth started for the Yankees with a single to center. After a Derek Jeter strikeout, Ichiro Suzuki drilled a two-run home run of his own to right field.
Valverde was charged with all four runs and was removed from the game after the Ibanez home run.
