UCLA defeats Colorado, 42-14

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had another nice game.

He passed for 281 yards.

Johnathan Franklin had another nice game.

He ran for 111 yards.

But how about that UCLA defense?

The Bruins held Colorado’s rushing game to 35 yards in 29 carries -- with most of the positive yardage coming late, after the winner of the game had long been decided.

And that winner was UCLA, 42-14, as the Bruins bounced back from a home loss to Oregon State by defeating Colorado in at Pac-12 Conference game at Boulder.

UCLA (4-1 overall, 1-1 in Pac-12 play) racked up 492 yards in offense as Hundley completed 24 of 37 passes, two for touchdowns.

And he spread the ball around, connecting with 11 different receivers. Jerry Johnson, the leading receiver, had four catches.

Franklin picked up his rushing yards in 15 carries. He also had three receptions for 78 yards.

Jordan Webb completed 21 of 32 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown with an interception for Colorado (1-4, 1-1).

With all the offense, UCLA led only 21-7 at the half, leaving Jim Mora a tad disappointed.

“I think we left a lot out there,” he said of the offense in a post-game television interview. “We made a lot of mistakes in the first half.”

Colorado’s top rushers were both freshmen from Upland High. Donta Abron finished with 29 yards in four carries and Christian Powell had 20 yards in six carries.

Powell, Colorado’s leading rusher for the season, was slowed by a right ankle injury and was finally taken to the locker room midway through the fourth quarter.
