Darius Morris assigned to D-Fenders

After facing limited playing time with the Lakers, rookie guard Darius Morris will finally see time on the court.
But that will happen while he wears aD-Fendersuniform.
The Lakers assigned Morris to the Development League Wednesday, after he averaged 2.7 points and 1.1 assists in 10.3 minutes through 13 games. Despite the Lakers’ needs at point guard, Coach Mike Brown expressed skepticism about playing Morris significant minutes because of his inexperience, over-dribbling and his understanding of the offense.
Morris assumed the backup spot while Steve Blake sat out the first seven games with a rib injury. Morris averaged 3.6 points on 40% shooting during that stretch. Then Brown granted rookie Andrew Goudelock the backup spot after he scored a career-high 14 points in the Lakers’ 96-91 victory over the Clippers on Jan. 25. Goudelock then slid over to backup shooting guard when Blake returned from his injury for the game against Boston on Feb. 9. Since Morris’ demotion, he has appeared in only six games for a combined 10 minutes of garbage time.
Under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement, teams can send a player to the D-League up to three times a season.
