Orioles put Tillman on DL

Right-hander Chris Tillman was put on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the Baltimore Orioles because of shoulder bursitis.

Tillman is 15-5 with a 3.76 earned-run average. Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez (5-10, 6.94) will start Thursday against right-hander Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals.

The Miami Marlins acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur from Atlanta in a three-team trade that included the Texas Rangers. Francoeur was the only major leaguer involved. He is hitting .249 with seven home runs and 33 runs batted in. ... Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes says he has no plans to exercise an opt-out clause in his contract with the New York Mets. Cespedes is in the first year of a three-year, $75-million deal that has an escape clause after the first season. ... Left-hander Jonathan Niese (8-7, 5.50) was put on the DL by the Mets and is leaning toward knee surgery. Niese began the season with Pittsburgh and rejoined the Mets this month in a deal at the trade deadline. ... Major League Baseball has agreed to hold games in Puerto Rico and will work with the players union to invest $5 million in developing baseball on the island.
