A full beer can thrown from the stands narrowly misses the head of Orioles’ Hyun Soo Kim [Video]

Baltimore outfielder Hyun Soo Kim just missed getting hit in the head by a full can of beer thrown from the stands in Toronto during the Orioles’ 5-2 loss Tuesday in the American League wild-card game.

Kim was in left field making a routine catch for the final out of the seventh inning when the object landed just behind him on the warning track.

Here’s another look at just how close of a call it was:

“Something like today should never happen,’’ Kim said, through his interpreter, Danny Lee. “This was the first time it happened, and hopefully the last time.” Lee added: “He was surprised, and kind of shocked that it happened.’’

After the incident, Kim appeared to stare into the stands in disbelief while center fielder Adam Jones came over and yelled angrily into the crowd.

“You don't do that,” Jones said after the game. “I don't care how passionate you think you are. Yell, cuss, scream, tell us we're horrible. We get that. We're the opposition. We completely understand that. To throw something at a player, that's as pathetic as it gets."

The fan was not located by security. Police are investigating the incident.

There were also reports of slurs being yelled at Kim, who is from South Korea, and Jones, who is African American.

Jones seemed to confirm those reports after the game.

“I’ve heard that so much playing baseball,’’ Jones said. “I don’t really care anymore. Call me what you want … I get it. That’s fine.

“But to put us in harm’s way, when all we’re doing is focusing on the game, that’s not part of baseball. Not part of any sport.’’

Blue Jays Manager John Gibbons said: “There’s no place in baseball for that. Guys are out there competing, and that happens. That’s unbelievable.

“It really hurts the reputation of all of our fans. Hopefully, we have no problems in the next series. Enough already. Let us handle things on the field.’’
