Stephen Curry heats up in the fourth quarter, Warriors remain unbeaten

Stephen Curry was held in relative check for most of Monday night’s game at Salt Lake City. The NBA scoring leader and reigning MVP had scored 16 points through three quarters as Draymond Green and other teammates did the heavy lifting.

Then came the fourth quarter.

Curry scored 10 of his 26 points in the final 6 minutes 20 seconds and the Golden State Warriors held on for a 106-103 victory over the Jazz, their NBA-record 19th consecutive win to start the season.

“We’ve had some battles and, obviously, we’ve had some lopsided victories,” Curry said. “But what gets lost in the record is the tough games we’ve had to claw our way out of like tonight. Just because we are 19-0 doesn’t mean we can just show up and blow teams out and guarantee a win, we actually have to do something about it.”

At Chicago 92, San Antonio 89: Pau Gasol had 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots, helping the Bulls end the Spurs’ five-game winning streak.

Jimmy Butler scored 14 points and reserve Doug McDermott had 12 for Chicago in the opener of a four-game homestand. Reserve Joakim Noah contributed eight points, seven assists and 11 rebounds in 24 minutes.

Gasol blocked LaMarcus Aldridge’s shot on a drive with 1:06 left, then hit one of two foul shots on the other end for a 90-89 lead. After Manu Ginobili missed for San Antonio, Butler hit two free throws with 10.6 seconds left.

At Atlanta 106, Oklahoma City 100: Paul Millsap scored 26 points, Jeff Teague made all the big shots down the stretch and the Hawks ended the Thunder’s four-game winning streak.

Russell Westbrook scored 34 points, including a drive with 2:49 remaining that gave the Thunder its first lead since scoring the opening basket. Westbrook knocked down a jumper to push Oklahoma City to a four-point lead, but Teague took control from there. He finished with 25 points, while Al Horford added 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Kevin Durant had 25 points but the Thunder lost for the first time since he rejoined the lineup after sitting out because of a hamstring injury.

Boston 105, at Miami 95: Avery Bradley scored 25 points and Jared Sullinger 17 to lead the Celtics.

Isaiah Thomas scored 16 while Jae Crowder, Evan Turner and Amir Johnson each added 13 for the Celtics, who ended a three-game road slide.

Dwyane Wade scored 30 for Miami, which cut a 14-point deficit to one in the fourth quarter but never led after halftime. Chris Bosh added 21 for the Heat.

At Milwaukee 92, Denver 74: Greg Monroe scored 18 points and the Bucks forced 24 turnovers that led to 35 points in handing the Nuggets their seventh consecutive loss.

Jabari Parker had 16 points and Michael Carter-Williams added 12 points and nine assists for Milwaukee, which won for only the second time in eight games.

Danilo Gallinari scored 13 points and Kenneth Faried 11 for Denver, which managed only 30 points in the second half after scoring only five in the third quarter of its previous game, a 92-81 loss at Dallas on Saturday.

At Detroit 116, Houston 105: Reggie Jackson scored 31 points and Andre Drummond added 24 points and 13 rebounds for the Pistons.

The Pistons built a 23-point lead in the first half before the Rockets got back into the game by constantly intentionally fouling Drummond, who made only four of 18 free throws.

Rookie Stanley Johnson had 19 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for Detroit, while James Harden scored 29 for the Rockets.

At Sacramento 112, Dallas 98: DeMarcus Cousins scored 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Kings.

Rajon Rondo had 21 points and Rudy Gay added 20 for the Kings, who had lost six in a row to the Mavericks and 21 of 23. Sacramento outscored the Mavericks, 22-13, in the third quarter to take the lead for good.
