Stephen Curry is the NBA’s first unanimous MVP

Stephen Curry has extended his reign as the NBA’s most valuable player, something pretty much everyone expected to happen.

But not only did the Golden State Warriors star win the honor for the second straight season, he did so in historic fashion as the league’s first unanimous MVP.

Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 and LeBron James in 2013 each came up one first-place vote shy of that achievement.

San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard finished second in this year’s voting, followed by Cleveland’s LeBron James and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant.

Curry is the first player to repeat as MVP since Steve Nash did in 2004 through 2006.

Curry finished the regular season with better statistics than he did a year ago, leading the league in points per game (30.1), steals (169) and three-point field goals (402), all career highs.

In fact, Curry’s three-point total is the most in league history, shattering his record of 286 from a year ago.

He also helped the defending champion Warriors set a new NBA mark with 73 regular-season victories.
