Golf roundup: Three tied for lead heading into final round of St. Jude Classic

Rafa Cabrera Bello shot a five-under-par 65 on Saturday to join Ben Crane and Stewart Cink in a three-way tie for the lead after three rounds at the St. Jude Classic.

Cabrera Bello, a 33-year-old from Spain, has four international victories, but has never won on the PGA Tour. He’s 30th in the World Golf Ranking.

Crane shot a 68 while Cink had a 69 to tie Cabrera Bello at nine-under 201.

The 44-year-old Cink has gradually improved his game since missing several weeks last year to help care for his wife Lisa, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. He qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday in Ohio and has now had three solid rounds at the par-70 TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tenn., to contend for his first victory since winning the 2009 British Open.

He had a good start on Saturday, with birdies on three of his first five holes. He opened up a three shot lead at 11-under after a seven-foot birdie putt on No. 5, but dropped back to the field after three bogeys on the back nine.

Crane won the St. Jude Classic in 2014.

Luke List and Chad Campbell both shot a 66 and are one stroke behind the leaders. List made two eagles on the back nine to vault into contention.

Campbell, who recently turned 43, hasn’t won a tournament since the 2007 Viking Classic. He started Saturday five shots back of the leaders, but charged up the leaderboard with five birdies and only one bogey.

Chez Reavie, Charl Schwartzel and Sebastian Munoz started the third round with a one shot lead over Cink, but all of them struggled. Reavie is still in contention after shooting a 72 and is tied with Matt Jones and Kevin Chappell at seven under, two shots behind the leaders. Schwartzel shot a 74 and Munoz a 75.

Thompson takes lead with a 67

Lexi Thompson shot a 67 for a 17-under 199 total and a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Canada.

Fellow American Lindy Duncan was in second after a 67, followed by South Korea’s In Gee Chun (68) another shot back. Canada’s Alena Sharp (70), who was in a three-way for the lead with Thompson and South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim, fell into a tie for fourth with world No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn (65) of Thailand.

First-round leader Suzann Petterson had a 68 and was in a three-way tie at 203. Canada’s Brittany Marchand, a Symetra Tour player who made the cut at an LPGA Tour event for the first time, was five shots off the lead after a 67.

Jobe leads Champions event

Brandt Jobe shot a six-under 66 to take a share of the lead following the second round of the PGA Tour Champions event in Des Moines, Iowa. Jobe and Glen Day will enter the final round at 11-under 133.

Jobe, who has never won on the senior tour, had a double-bogey on the par-three ninth hole before rallying with six consecutive birdies. Day shot a 67 and made birdie on No. 18 to join Jobe atop the leaderboard.

Kevin Sutherland, who shared the first round lead with Day and money leader Bernhard Langer, is at nine under. Kevin Flesch, Tom Lehman and Michael Bradley are three strokes back of Jobe.

Aguilar keeps two-shot lead at Lyoness Open

Chilean golfer Felipe Aguilar retained a two-stroke lead after the third round of the Lyoness Open in Atzenbrugg, Austria.

Leading from the opening day, the 399th-ranked Aguilar is chasing his third European Tour title after winning the Indonesia Open in 2008 and The Championship at Laguna National three years ago.

Aguilar had a three-stroke advantage but dropped a shot on the 18th to finish level par and remain nine under for the tournament. Johan Carlsson of Sweden, Dylan Frittelli of South Africa and Sepp Straka of Austria followed on seven under each.

A group of four players, who were one stroke further back, included Mikko Korhonen of Finland. Korhonen had a 66 for the lowest score of the day.
