Clippers complete coaching staff by hiring Lawrence Frank

The Clippers have hired Lawrence Frank as an assistant coach after he reached a buyout agreement with the Brooklyn Nets. Frank had a trying season in which he clashed with Coach Jason Kidd and was demoted to compiling daily reports.

Frank, 44, had previously been given a six-year, $6-million contract by the Nets that made him the highest-paid assistant coach in NBA history.

He has spent parts of nine seasons as a head coach with the New Jersey Nets and Detroit Pistons, compiling a 279-335 record.

Frank will join a Clippers staff under Coach Doc Rivers that also includes former Washington Wizards assistant Sam Cassell and former New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson in addition to holdover Armond Hill and the recently promoted Brendan O’Connor.

Frank also was an assistant under Rivers in Boston. He was expected to mentor Kidd in Brooklyn before a falling out prompted Kidd to remove Frank from his bench. Kidd left the Nets this summer to become coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
