Mark Sanchez reportedly agrees to stay in Philadelphia two more years

Mark Sanchez didn’t quite set the NFL on fire when he got a chance to start for the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

In fact, he was the guy calling the signals during the late-season, three-game skid that kept the Eagles out of the playoffs.

Nonetheless, the free agent quarterback is coming back to Philadelphia, and still making much more money than incumbent starter Nick Foles, according to multiple media reports.

Sanchez reportedly has agreed to a two-year deal with the Eagles, worth anywhere from $9 million to 16 million, depending on incentives. Foles, entering into the final year of his rookie contract, is set to make $1.3 million.

After one season as USC’s starter and five up-and-down years with the New York Jets, Sanchez signed a one-year deal with the Eagles last year to serve as Foles’ backup. He took over the starting job after Foles broke his collarbone in November.

Sanchez was 4-4 as the Eagles’ starter and finished the season with 2,418 yards after completing 64% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for a passer rating of 88.4.

Some are speculating that Coach Chip Kelly is looking to trade up in the draft in order to pick former Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
