Clippers’ Blake Griffin listed as game-time decision after back spasms
Blake Griffin went through the Clippers’ shoot-around Monday, but said it will be a game-time decision on whether he plays in the wake of back spasms that sidelined him after the first quarter of Saturday night’s game in Houston.
“We’ll see how it feels tonight and then we’ll make a decision,” Griffin said.
Griffin said the condition of his back has improved since Saturday, but “I still wouldn’t say 100%.”
Coach Doc Rivers said there was a “50-50” chance of Griffin playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.
Rivers said he’ll let Griffin and Clippers head athletic trainer Jasen Powell make the final decision before the game.
“I’m not going to watch him warm up or anything,” Rivers said. “JP will make the decision. But if he’s not moving well or the way I think he should be moving in the game, I’ll just take him out.”
Griffin was injured about midway through the first quarter at Houston, grabbing his back while falling down on the court in front of the Clippers’ bench.
“I wasn’t sure what I really felt. I hadn’t felt anything like that,” Griffin said. “I’ve had back spasms before, but it wasn’t like the same. I just didn’t know. You don’t want to push the issue.”
