Florida State compliance looking into Jameis Winston autographs

There are so many Jameis Winston stories in motion it’s hard to keep up.

ESPN is reporting that Florida State’s compliance office is investigating how a single company authenticated 340 autographs by the Seminoles’ star quarterback.

Florida State Coach Jimbo Fisher said Winston told him he was not paid for his signature, which would be a violation of NCAA rules.

“Kids sign things all the time,” Fisher said after Saturday’s win over Syracuse. “So, what do you want them to do, stop signing stuff?

“We could make them not have any fans from that standpoint and not sign for anybody. That’s what it’s going to come to, and that’s a shame for college football, that somebody exploits a kid. Now, if they’re getting paid for it, then I don’t have any knowledge of that. I don’t believe Jameis did.”

ESPN reports that Winston’s signatures were certified by James Spence Authentication (JSA), which certified more than 500 autographs by Georgia tailback Todd Gurley.

Georgia has suspended Gurley indefinitely while the school investigates.

ESPN reports that neither the Atlantic Coast Conference nor the NCAA has contacted Florida State about Winston’s signature involvement.
