Carmen Policy: Chargers, Raiders will have temporary stadium solution if given permission to move

No obvious temporary venue for two NFL teams in Los Angeles?

No problem, says Carmen Policy, representing the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders in their pursuit of a new stadium in Carson.

Policy recently told The Times that he’s not concerned about the string of rejections the NFL received in trying to line up temporary stadiums in the L.A. area.

“There’s no question in our minds that we will be able to effectively negotiate and conclude a temporary venue for each of these teams for the next three seasons, which will definitely accommodate our definite completion date,” Policy said.

Asked if that would entail the Raiders staying in Oakland to play their games while a stadium is under construction in Carson, a possibility that has been discussed by league staff, Policy said: “I won’t speak to that. But there will be two acceptable venues available in the L.A. region if both of these teams wish to use these venues -- if we’re approved -- and ready for us to move in for the 2016 season.”

Earlier this summer, the league inquired about the availability of five venues in the market: the Coliseum, Rose Bowl, 27,000-seat StubHub Center, Angel Stadium and Dodger Stadium. The Rose Bowl and StubHub Center opted not to enter the race, and both ballparks have significant questions about scheduling -- August and September are busy times for baseball -- and how many years the stadium would be needed.

Only the Coliseum has stepped up with a definite yes, although that venue’s lease stipulates that only one NFL team can play there.
