Linebacker Matthew Thomas, who signed with Florida State in February, wants a release from his national letter of intent and wants to attend USC, Thomas’ father told ESPN.com.
Billy Thomas, the player’s father, told ESPN.com’s Joe Schad, “He made a decision for himself. It’s USC.”
Matthew, who is from Miami, reportedly signed the letter of intent with Florida State because his mother would not sign paperwork for him to attend USC.
If Thomas enrolled at USC without a full release from Florida State, he would have to sit out the 2013 season.
Last week, Notre Dame signee Eddie Vanderdoes, a defensive lineman from Placer High School in Auburn, Calif., chose to attend UCLA even though Notre Dame declined to grant him a full release from his letter of intent.
Vanderdoes must sit out the 2013 season and will be eligible in 2014.
