Khalil Tate threw for 404 yards and three touchdowns in his return from a leg injury, and Arizona used stops at the goal line and midfield on Colorado’s final two drives to wrap up its 35-30 win Saturday in Boulder, Colo.

Tate completed 31 of 41 passes and only ran four times, including a seven-yard scamper on third-and-six from midfield in the closing minutes that allowed Arizona (4-1, 2-0) to run out the clock and leave Folsom Field as the Pacific-12 South’s last unbeaten team.

The Buffaloes (3-2, 1-1) sorely missed star wide receiver Laviska Shenault (core muscle injury), who sat out, as well as safety Mikial Onu, who had a first-half interception but left on the first defensive series of the second half with a torso injury.

A look at the highlights of Saturday’s college football action, including Notre Dame’s huge halftime lead over Bowling Green in a tuneup for next weekend’s game against USC.

Without him, the Buffaloes surrendered three second-half touchdowns after taking a 20-14 halftime lead.

at Stanford 23, No. 15 Washington 13: Cameron Scarlett rushed for a career-high 157 yards and a touchdown, quarterback Davis Mills had another impressive game in place of injured starter K.J. Costello before apparently getting hurt himself, and the Cardinal pulled off their biggest win of the season, stunning the Huskies in Palo Alto.

Stanford (3-3, 2-2) extended its home winning streak to six games, dating to 2007, against Washington with a plodding, methodical offense that kept Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason on the sidelines for long chunks of the game.

The Cardinal dominated Washington (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12) in nearly every offensive category and held an 18-minute edge in time of possession.

Jet Toner added three field goals to help Stanford, which has won back-to-back games following a three-game losing streak.

College football roundup Week 6: No. 19 Michigan hands No. 14 Iowa its first loss, while No. 4 Ohio State rolls past No. 25 Michigan State.

Mills was crisp until coming out of the game for an unknown reason in the middle of a scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Mills was 21-of-30 passing for 293 yards and a touchdown but spent the final nine minutes on the sideline with what appeared to be a bag of ice wrapped around his left calf. Jack West ran the offense down the stretch.

Stanford got a big lift from its defense, which harassed Eason into an interception and forced a punt on Washington’s first two drives in the fourth quarter.

Eason was 15 of 35 for 181 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

at No. 13 Oregon 17, California 7: Justin Herbert threw for 214 yards and a late touchdown to extend his streak of consecutive games with a scoring pass to 33, and the Ducks overcame an uncharacteristically slow start in a victory over the Golden Bears.

Oregon (4-1, 1-0 Pac-12) trailed until Cyrus Habibi-Likio’s one-yard touchdown run with 1:38 left in third quarter made it 10-7. Herbert’s streak of touchdowns appeared in jeopardy until his short pass to Jaylon Redd with 7:14 to go in the game.

The Ducks, whose only loss came in the opener against Auburn, were held scoreless in the first half by the surprisingly resilient Bears (4-2, 1-2).

Junior Devon Modster made his first start for Cal in place of injured quarterback Chase Garbers. After struggling last week when Garbers got knocked out of Cal’s loss to Arizona State, Modster fared better against Oregon’s defense.

Modster threw for 190 yards and a touchdown against the Ducks, who hadn’t given up a touchdown since the game against the Tigers.
