Tight end Bryce Dixon no longer enrolled at USC, university announces

USC tight end Bryce Dixon, who was suspended from spring practice because of an unspecified student-conduct issue, is no longer enrolled at the university, the school announced Thursday.

University and athletic department spokesmen declined to comment, citing student privacy laws.

Attempts to reach Dixon were not immediately successful.

Dixon caught 14 passes last season as a freshman, four for touchdowns.

At the outset of spring practice, Coach Steve Sarkisian declined to say why Dixon was absent, citing privacy laws and instruction from the university’s general counsel.

Dixon, who came to USC from Ventura St. Bonaventure High, was suspended from last season’s Nov. 13 game against California for what Sarkisian said was an unspecified student-conduct issue. Sarkisian said then that the situation was “in the university’s hands.”

Dixon practiced the next week and played against UCLA.

Dixon’s departure leaves USC with fourth-year junior Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick as the only scholarship tight end on the roster. Cope-Fitzpatrick was academically ineligible in 2014.

Freshman tight end Tyler Petite is expected to enroll this summer. Incoming freshmen linebackers Osa Masina and Porter Gustin also are listed as tight ends.
