Baseball: Sophomore Matthew Acosta leads Ayala surge
Chino Hills Ayala has made the baseball playoffs for the first time in six years, with sophomore pitcher-outfielder Matthew Acosta, a USC commit, making major contributions.
Ayala (15-12, 8-7) tied for third place in the Sierra League. Acosta is batting .457 and also has a 1.35 ERA.
Juniors Tim Turpen (.419( and Tyler Durna (.338) have been key hitters. Senior Bryan Roe has delivered clutch hits and senior pitcher Jordan Abernathy came through with a huge win over Damien.
Junior pitcher Erik Cha is a Cal State Fullerton commit.
