Las Vegas: Bruxie waffle sandwiches to open at splashy new pedestrian area called The Park

The Strip’s newest attraction, scheduled to open in early April, isn’t a towering resort. It’s a park, and that’s its only name too: The Park.

And fans of Bruxie in Orange County will like this: The gourmet waffle sandwich restaurant will open its first site outside Southern California at the new location.

MGM Resorts revealed details of the new destination Tuesday. Essentially a large pedestrian mall, The Park will be between the New York-New York and Monte Carlo hotel-casinos. It will link Las Vegas Boulevard with the recently named T-Mobile Arena, which sits behind the two resorts.

The Park is scheduled to open April 4. The 20,000-seat arena, which will host concerts and sporting events, will open two days later, on April 6, with a gala featuring The Killers, Shamir and Wayne Newton.

Upon entering the mall from the Strip, visitors will be greeted by water walls that soar as high as 10-story buildings. Farther along, there are seating areas amid desert plants.

Mature trees and sculptures shaped like trumpets will provide shade. At night, those 50-foot sculptures will glow with LED lighting.

Alongside The Park, MGM Resorts is constructing a 5,000-seat theater at Monte Carlo.

In addition to Bruxie, a number of bars and restaurants will border the new attraction.

A beer garden, which a statement describes as “unpretentious,” will overlook the walkway. Guests can play boccie ball, darts or pingpong while enjoying their favorite brew.

Sake Rok, a combination bar, restaurant and club, will serve private-label sake and Japanese cuisine. Servers will double as entertainers, sharing Japan’s pop culture with customers.

Shake Shack, a Big Apple-based chain known for its shakes and burgers, fittingly sits beside the Brooklyn Bridge replica at New York-New York.

Officials are touting the mall as the first park along the Strip.

It could develop into a popular place for tourists to sit and relax amid their long walks between the attractions and resorts along Las Vegas Boulevard.
