Drones make you the star of your next Squaw Valley ski or snowboard video

Selfies and GoPro take you only so far when you’re on the snow, but picture this: a drone video that captures every turn and trick of your next ski run from angles you just can’t get.

Starting Thursday, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows ski resort near Lake Tahoe offers skiers and snowboarders a chance to star in their own on-slope films. Wide-angle overhead shots of the snow, the trees, the sky — and, of course, you — are all part of the wow factor.

The resort has partnered with newcomer Cape Productions for its high-tech drone expertise. Here’s how it works: You sign up in advance (either online or at the resort) and are directed to a dedicated run for the shoot.

You get to go down twice, with the drone filming you each time — once from the front, then from the side and back. A handheld camera also captures the action.

Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a pro-level two-minute video of highlights set to music. You can slap it on Facebook or just share it with family and friends.

Drone shoots are available Thursdays through Sundays. It costs $99, whether it’s just you, or you and your BFFs. (Take a look at the video above for a sample.)

“The big idea behind Cape is that people should be able to capture their amazing vacation memories,” says CEO and co-founder Jason Soll, 25.

Cape also offers drone videos at Homewood Mountain Resort near Lake Tahoe in Homewood and at Fernie Alpine Resort in British Columbia, Canada.
