Florida port claims world record for most cruise passengers in a single day
If you were sailing through Florida’s Port Everglades on Sunday, it may have seemed pretty busy. The port says it set a world record Sunday for the most cruise passengers passing through in a single day.
A statement estimates more than 54,700 passengers sailed in and out of the port near Fort Lauderdale.

Whose world record did the port break?
Its own -- set Dec. 20 with 53,485 passengers passing through. Interestingly, Port Everglades welcomed the same ships on both single-day records.
These eight cruise ships sailed in and/or out Sunday include:
Holland America’s Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam
Regal Princess and Royal Princess
Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas
Miami, Port Canaveral and Port Everglades -- all in Florida -- are the three busiest cruise ship ports in the world. The Orlando Sun-Sentinel reported that Port Everglades came in No. 2 in 2014, after Miami.
