If you’re visiting Yosemite, bring tire chains. Snow has shut Glacier Point and Tioga roads until spring
Popular roads to Yosemite National Park’s backcountry have closed for the season because of hazardous driving conditions after a recent storm, according to a park news release Wednesday.
Tioga Road (California Highway 120), the east-west route through the park, and Glacier Point Road have shut after the storm brought snow to higher elevations.
As a result of the snowy conditions, visitors are required to carry tire chains, even for four-wheel drive vehicles, throughout winter. The park remains open year-round, but roads may close at any time because of weather.
Last year, Tioga Road closed on Nov. 16. After a big snow year, the road didn’t reopen until June 29. Glacier Point Road closed on the same date and reopened May 11.
