Who’s the best airline of them all? Virgin America and JetBlue, report says
You’ve heard it all before, and a new report reaffirms it: Virgin America and JetBlue are the best U.S. airlines. And the worst? Legacy carriers United and American airlines ranked at the bottom.
In 2016’s Best & Worst Airlines compiled by WalletHub, U.S. airlines were evaluated by the number of delayed and/or canceled flights, lost bags, complaints and animal incidents as well as on-board comfort and cost.
Virgin America and JetBlue also were No. 1 and 2 in the Airline Quality Report released earlier this month.
WalletHub’s top carriers for overall performance are:
1. Virgin America, which is slated to merge with Alaska Airlines in a $2.6-billion deal
2. JetBlue
The worst-ranked airlines overall are Frontier, Spirit, regional carrier ExpressJet, American and United.
When it comes to most reliable airlines — fewest cancellations, delays, lost bags, etc. — Delta topped the list, followed by Alaska and Virgin America.
JetBlue and American (in that order) rank as most comfortable airlines to fly, and Spirit and ExpressJet are the cheapest to fly.
