Jordan: A desert-to-desert view of the extraordinary life of T.E. Lawrence

Fans of British author and archaeologist T.E. Lawrence and the 1962 classic movie “Lawrence of Arabia” can take off on a new tour of Jordan that focuses on the famed World War I hero.

The itinerary, offered by the IsramWorld Portfolio of Brands, inaugurates a new Go Where They Wrote series of author-inspired trips around the world. Dubbed Lawrence of Arabia: The Original Trail, it is the first trip in the series.

Lawrence was an enigmatic archeologist, diplomat, writer and soldier, recognized for leading Arab fighters in a series of attacks against the Ottoman Turks in World War I. The epic 1962 movie directed by David Lean and starring Peter O’Toole was based on his life.

Participants will explore dune-filled deserts, stay overnight in a Bedouin tent and ride a 100-year-old steam-engine train across dramatic landscapes.

They’ll also visit Petra, known for its rock-cut architecture by the early Nabateans; and Wadi Rum (a.k.a. the Valley of the Moon), a sandstone and granite valley in southern Jordan that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“Lawrence of Arabia” is ranked No. 5 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 greatest American movies of all time. Lawrence was killed in a 1935 motorcycle accident in Dorset, England, at age 46.

The 10-day itinerary is available for booking through Dec. 31. Prices start at $3,795 per person, based on double occupancy.
