Web Buzz: Foodspotting dishes up tasty photos, restaurant reviews
This app (and a website) is for foodies who aren’t content with just reading restaurant reviews. It gives them a sneak peek at the dishes.
Name: Foodspotting
Available for: iPhone; Android in beta
What it does: Uses photos of plates of food served to customers to help users discover amazing dishes from establishments of all sizes and locales.
Cost: Free
What’s hot: There are many ways to use this app. Don’t miss the “Guides” section if you want good meals before you set off on a trip. You can browse well-known guides such as “Zagat’s Most Popular SF Restaurants” and “No Reservations: 100 Food Spots Visited by Anthony Bourdain.” When you’re out of town, use the mobile app. From home, sift through photos at Foodspotting.com before calling in a reservation or phoning a friend to join you for a bite.
What’s not: The app and website solicit only positive reviews from users (“we want to know what you love, not what you hate”). That may not be a bad thing if your purpose is to find food that people love.
Worth it: Yes. And it’s even better now that it has been populated with more great food.
