Honolulu hotel rooms on sale for $99 a night — and less

Aqua Hotels & Resorts has put rooms in Honolulu and other Hawaii destinations on sale for $99 or less a night. The chain also tacks on a 10th anniversary discount that rewards those who bring along a childhood photo with a discount of 10% more.

The deal: Aqua Hotels & Resorts has a dozen properties near Waikiki. Sample sale rates: I checked dates in late October online and found rooms going for $79 a night at Aqua Aloha Surf Waikiki and $99 a night at Aqua Palms Waikiki (prices exclude tax).

Apply the Aqua Is 10 promotion -- present a photo of yourself at age 10 at check-in to get an added 10% discount -- and prices drop to $72 and $90, respectively.

When: The room sale is good at selected hotels through the end of December, with some blackout dates. The Aqua Is 10 promotion runs through Aug. 10.

Tested: I checked availability for a weeklong stay starting Dec. 1. A room at the Aqua Palms Waikiki ranges from $81 to $90 a night plus tax during those dates. Total for the week stay with tax: $676, including free Internet and mini-fridge/microwave. Each property has different extras and different rates for this sale, so compare hotels in this chain until you find a price you like.
