‘Dolphin Tale’ star Winter plays key role in Florida resort deal
The family drama “Dolphin Tale,” which opened last week, features Winter, a bottlenose dolphin that (ATTENTION: spoiler alert!) receives a prosthetic tail after being seriously injured when caught in fishing lines at the age of 3 months. It’s a heartwarming, against-all-odds story that might inspire families to want to see the real Winter.
The Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater, Fla., has fashioned a package that comes with two tickets to the aquarium where Winter lives, plus a $50 resort credit with prices starting at $199 a night.
The deal: The Winter the Dolphin package includes tickets to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where the dolphin has lived since 2005. The $50 credit may be used for food and beverages at the resort. Note that this package requires a two-night minimum stay.
When: The offer is good through the end of the year, based on availability.
Tested: I checked online and had a hard time finding availability for weekends. I found some midweek dates for the $199 package, including two nights starting Nov. 6. The savings: Best available rate for the same room on the same dates costs $222 a night, aquarium tickets for two cost $29.90 and the $50 credit should cover at least one meal.
