Las Vegas: Aviation Nation showcases Sin City’s military side
Las Vegas embarks on a whole new game next week when Aviation Nation rolls out at Nellis Air Force Base. Want to see a drone close up? Check out the M-9 reaper, which might even make a demo flight. Want to see your tax dollars at work? F-15 and F-16 fighter planes will be ready for inspection.
The Air Force’s Thunderbirds and the F-22 Aerial Demonstration team will provide the in-air festivities. The event takes place during Veterans Day weekend, a good time to tour the base and thank those who serve our country too.
The deal: Admission to the air show is free; parking at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for this event and shuttles to the base also are free. There will be historical exhibits on display, aircraft on the ground to see and even a Kids Zone play area at the base, which is eight miles northeast of Vegas. Also, visitors may take a guided tour of the on-base Thunderbird Museum from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
When: Aviation Nation runs Nov. 10 and 11. Gates open at 9 a.m. both days and the flying acts perform between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (The list of performances starts with a Korean War reenactment involving an F-86 Sabre and ends with the Thunderbirds.)
Details: Check the Security Search Requirements posted online to make sure you don’t bring such things as coolers with food and beverages, grills, glass containers, pets, skateboards and a bunch of other items on the prohibited list.
