Chef Suzanne Goin’s Larder at Tavern opens in LAX’s Bradley terminal
The fourth restaurant in the gourmet Tavern family created by chef Suzanne Goin and business partner Caroline Styne has opened at the newly upgraded Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.
The Larder at Tavern in the post-security screening area of the terminal brings freshly baked breads and an open kitchen where diners can watch hot sandwiches and other dishes being made. Travelers may eat in or choose a “picnic box” (to-go meal) featuring items such as Nicoise Spanish tuna with olives, cucumber, tomato and aioli; and a vegan cobb salad with beets, avocado and sugar snap peas.
And they can load up on desserts (to share or not) such as dulce de leche brownies or chocolate cashew cookies. For those in need of last-minute mementos, the restaurant sells gift baskets with California products as well as items such as the Larder chocolate bar and organic California extra-virgin olive oils.
Goin and Styne created landmark L.A. restaurants Lucques, AOC and now Tavern in Brentwood, with Larders at Maple Drive in Beverly Hills and Burton Way in Los Angeles.
“Caroline and I are ecstatic to be able to give a glimpse of Los Angeles’ culinary character to travelers through the Larder’s freshly prepared bakery goods, sandwiches and complete meals all created from our seasonal California markets,” Goin said in a statement.
She and Styne partnered with HMSHost in bringing the restaurant to LAX. It joins other L.A. restaurants including Lemonade, the popular Umami Burger and 800 Degrees pizzeria in the Bradley terminal, which reopened in September. The terminal has undergone a $1.9-billion upgrade, though not all the shops and restaurants have opened yet.
In another part of the airport, the Encounter restaurant inside the LAX Theme Building closed its doors for good. Westfield Concession Management is tasked with coming up with designs and concepts for a new eatery but has announced no plans for the L.A. landmark yet, airport officials say.
