Comedian Greg Giraldo dies at 44

Comedian Greg Giraldo, a regular on Comedy Central celebrity roasts and a judge on the NBC-TV show ‘Last Comic Standing,” died Wednesday. He was 44.

Producers for ‘Last Comic Standing’ confirmed celebrity media reports that the stand-up comic had died in New Jersey. He had been hospitalized for a reported prescription drug overdose.

‘Greg was one of the most talented comedians of our time.… Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,’ the statement said.

Giraldo was hospitalized in New Brunswick, N.J., after he reportedly overdosed accidentally on prescription medicine Saturday night at a hotel in East Brunswick.

A spokesman for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where Giraldo was admitted Saturday, referred calls to Giraldo’s management company, which was not releasing information Wednesday.

Giraldo, who was born in New York in 1965, was a Harvard-educated lawyer. He was divorced with three children.
