Emmys 2011: Rising designers get a chance on the red carpet

The stakes aren’t as high on the Emmy red carpet compared with the Oscars and Golden Globes, so lesser known designers seem to have a chance. George Hobeika, a Lebanese designer, dressed Julia Stiles in a lavender-gray lace confection. Jayma Mays is wearing Zuhair Murad, another Lebanese designer. Her dress is a light pink cap-sleeve gown. Not sure about the tiered skirt though.
And kudos to L.A. designer David Meister, who dressed the host Jane Lynch in a maroon strapless gown. Sarah Hyland collaborated with ‘Project Runway’ winner Christian Siriano on a peach satin one-shouldered gown with a crystal waistband. (Nice to see Siriano collaborating on something other than sponges.)
‘Mad Men’ bombshell Christina Hendricks is wearing relative unknown (on these shores anyway) designer Johanna Johnson. The Aussie is known for Art Deco-inspired designs, which are certainly topical. Flapper style was all over the runways at New York Fashion Week, which ended Thursday. Unfortunately, the dress is all wrong for Hendricks. The color washes her out and the embroidery doesn’t do her any favors.
