‘The Skin I Live In’ marks Pedro Almodovar’s first film with his Spanish compatriot Antonio Banderas in 21 years. The two previously worked together on Almodovar’s debut film, 1982’s ‘Labyrinth of Passion,’ collaborating often together thereafter, including their work on the Academy Award-nominated film ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,’ which earned Banderas international recognition.
Almodovar describes his new film, about a surgeon who tries to save his wife’s life by creating a new skin, ‘a horror film without screams or frights.’ It will have its world debut in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins Wednesday.
Check out the teaser trailer for the film, which will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in November, below. Foreign language Oscar contender? We’ll see.
