By leading with the most MTV VMA Award nominations, Katy Perry may seem like a favorite of those kudos, but, in fact, the opposite is true. Even though she’s been showered with nominations in the past, she’s never won.

Perry has had a chummy history with the VMA Awards -- she even met her future husband Russell Brand there back in 2009 when she performed Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Brand hosted. She was nominated for best female video then for ‘Hot n Cold,’ but lost.

At that point, Perry was probably numb to her losses, though. One year earlier, her red-hot ‘I Kissed a Girl’ lost for best female video, best new artist, best editing, best art direction and best cinematography.

Last year, her ‘California Gurls’ got trounced in the races for best female video and best pop video. Now she’s up for video of the year (‘Firework’), female video (‘Firework’) and best collaboration (‘E.T.’). What gives?
