Tony-winning ‘Hair’ coming to NBC’s ‘Tonight Show’

NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show’ is taking a trip back to the Age of Aquarius.

On July 13, Conan O’Brien will host the cast of the Tony-winning Broadway revival of ‘Hair.’ The ‘tribe’ will perform a musical number that will be staged by director Diane Paulus and will use the entire ‘Tonight Show’ set at Universal City.

The cast members are scheduled to fly to L.A. immediately after the July 12 matinee performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York. They will return to New York following Monday’s appearance on NBC so that no performances will be missed on Broadway.

‘Hair,’ which was first performed in 1967 at New York’s Public Theater, tells the story of a group of young Americans as they search for love and connection during the Vietnam War. The current revival, which is also produced by the Public, opened on Broadway on March 31 and went on to win the Tony award for musical revival. The production debuted the previous summer at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park.

The show is directed by Paulus with choreography by Karole Armitage. The music is by Galt MacDermot and the book and lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado.
